The Muddy River Boys

I had the pleasure of shooting the first ever Roots n' Blues n' BBQ Festival in Columbia this weekend. Festival organizers hoped for 30,000 visitors (which I thought was incredibly optimistic) and ended up drawing 50,000 to 60,000. Color me impressed.

Shouldn't have been that surprised - It doesn't get any better than blues and barbecue. I didn't quite see where roots fit in, but everyone has their passions I suppose.

I had a blast with Centralia's own Muddy River Boys all weekend; and I mean all weekend - they stay awake all night to keep an eye on the meat. That's the logic at least, sometimes I wondered how that was done while under the influence at a friend's cooker on the other side of the lot. They know what they're doing, though - their name was called twice during the awards ceremony.

i wondered how the 'roots' figured into the equation as well. my friends and i called it the blues 'n' booze 'n' -que festival.
