I've wanted to see this document my entire adult life. Seeing the handwriting was surreal, and as close as I'll ever get to feeling the tension that must have been in a room full of men signing their death warrant (with an inconcievably steady hand) in the name of a very fragile democracy. The document has badly faded, but you have to smile upon noticing the only words that have survived the centuries completely legibly were the phrases they hammered home with bold letters - "Free and Independent." Wave all the flags you want, I will never call anyone a patriot again until I'm convinced they share the same heart as these men.
